Moving can be stressful and exhausting, but maybe it doesn’t have to be that way. Unpacking is a task in itself, which is why we’ve combined these hacks to help make the moving process easier and less exhausting.
1- Take Your Time
When moving to a new living space, it can be helpful to move things in short spurts. If you’re moving locally, you might find it easier to move a few things at a time and unpack everything as soon as you get there. You could even go room by room, but you might find it easier to hire professional movers to move and unpack your furniture and larger items.
2- Pack Responsibly
Rather than throwing everything you own into boxes, make sure you label everything as you pack them. By doing this, you will know where to put each box when you move them rather than having to go through them on moving day. You don’t want to try to figure out which box has certain items in it. If you have a box for clothes, label it as clothes. Put nothing else in that box except clothes. If you throw a bunch of things into it, you’ll spend hours unpacking.
3- Move Things You Don’t Need Right Away
Don’t move any essentials until it’s moving day. Sure, you can move things little by little, but make sure they are things you don’t actually need immediately, like your medicine, toothbrush, or socks. Those can stay with you until you’ve officially moved into your new home while you take care of full coverage painting & flooring. However, move the things you don’t need or use on a daily basis, like your sewing machine or humidifier.
4- Organize
When you’re in the process of moving things into each designated room, start organizing things as you unpack them. Not only does this make unpacking easier and less stressful, but also cleaner. Organizing items is a hassle, so why not get it done right when you unpack everything? It’ll give you the opportunity to relax once you’re truly finished moving. You won’t have to clean or organize anything right away.
5- Unpack the Bathroom First
On moving day, unpack toiletries first. This will make things easier when you must use the bathroom, or showering off after moving. Put up the shower curtain and unpack the soaps, toothbrushes, and toothpaste first. Everyone likes to wash away the sweat and dust from moving as soon as they’re finished. You don’t want to find out you’re not truly finished unpacking when you realize you haven’t put the towels and soaps in their proper place. (It’s also polite to any person helping you move.)
6- Do Laundry Before You Move
It cannot be stressed enough how important this hack will be for anyone moving. Nobody wants to sort through dirty and clean clothes after they move. That’s the last thing they will want to do. Plus, all you’ll need to do to unpack clean clothes is just to put them away. You won’t have to worry about doing chores the second you’re finished moving. This goes for doing dishes, too.
There you have it! These are the most useful hacks to make unpacking after a big move painless and stress-free.
